There’s two from me in the latest Guitar Techniques Magazine, a ten page tutorial on playing above the 12th fret and a style file analysis of the great Count Basie rhythm ace, Freddie Green. It’s a busy weekend for gigs too. I’m very excited to be playing at the International Mersey River Festival on Sunday 5th June with the Wack Pack at 3.30pm and then dashing off to watch Steve Vai play Passion And Warfare in Manchester. Busy busy.. JW
I’m proud to announce a show I’m doing a little later this year (September 3rd to be precise) with the fantastic guitarists, Robin Nolan and Remi Harris, at the new Music Room at the Liverpool Philharmonic. It’ll be a great gig. These two are truly wonderful players and I’m looking forward to this tremendously. Better get as much practice in as possible between now and then and hope to see you there. Tickets are selling fast so grab one whilst you can. JW.
Last night’s gig at the New Brighton Floral Pavilion went down fantastically well. The four lads that front the show, Asa Murphy, Steve Charles, Joe Speare and Jamie Somers were on fine form and the band played great. We also received the offer to play at this year’s International Mersey River Festival at the Pier Head on Sunday 5th June. This summer is looking to be quite busy with a good balance of very different gigs. I’ll endeavour to keep the events page up to date so keep your eyes peeled and hopefully see you on the road at some point soon.. JW
I played a fantastic gig last Wednesday with the mighty Mike Outram on guitar, Andy Trim on bass and Mark Rose on bass at The Bull’s Head in Barnes. Mike’s playing is outrageously good and massively inspiring. Also this week, my lesson looking at the style of the wonderful Emily Remler has been published in this month’s edition of Guitar Techniques magazine. Hope you can check it out and enjoy. JW.
My article based on the soloing style of Larry Carlton is featured in the current edition of Guitar Techniques magazine, issue GT255. Last week’s gigs with the quartet went down incredibly well at both March Manouche, Menai Bridge and at Frodsham. Really looking forward to the next ones. Some exciting gigs on the horizon in this style, so watch this space! Cheers, Jx
Really looking forward to playing at March Manouche in Menai Bridge on 19th March and Frodsham on 26th March. These are both great events and it’s a great opportunity to perform close to home. We’re expanding the trio to a quartet, with a great rehearsal yesterday with Micky Dunne, John Padfield and Johnny Mac. Be great to see some of you down there at either of these events if you can make it. Cheers, Jx
I’m really looking to playing with Andy Trim (Drums) and Mike Gorman (Organ) at The Arch Duke on the Southbank this coming Friday, 26th February. Following this, I’ll be at Mau Mau on Portobello Road on Tuesday 1st March, with Martin Shaw (Trumpet), Erik Stams (Drums) and Andrew McKinney (Bass). Hope for see you at either or both of these events. Jx
The new edition of Guitar Techniques is out now, with my style analysis of the fantastic fusion player, Oz Noy. He’s a superb player with lots you can learn from. Check it out if you’re interested in super-sophisticated blues/rock/jazz/funk phrasing.
The Three Colours Guitar project is building in excitement, with rehearsals scheduled and gigs being lined up as we speak. We’ll have a short promotional video online within the next few days, so keep a look out. Declan and Stuart are both absolutely stunning playing and Im looking forward to this tremendously.
